Walk Honoree – Hailey Near
Hailey Near is a 7-year old delightful little lady who was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when she was just a toddler. Hailey is affected by Polyarticular Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Since last year, Hailey’s medications have been altered. She receives four less shots per month now as she receives her Methotrexate in pill form, which delighted Hailey! She also continues to receive biweekly injections of Humira (which Hailey refers to as the “bad shot”). With the combination of these two medications, her joint and eye doctors at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and physical and occupational therapy at school, Hailey has been responding well and hasn’t experienced any recent flare ups.
Hailey’s mother, Michelle, was recently diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis and also takes Methotrexate. She and Hailey take their medications together. Michelle is continuing testing as she is still in the beginning stages of treatment.
This year will be Hailey and her family’s 3rd walk for the Arthritis Foundation. Hailey and her team, Hailey’s Honeys, will also hold their 2nd annual benefit for the Arthritis Foundation in June as they continue to play an active role in raising funds for a cure. Hailey, her family, friends and community have helped to raise over $10,000 for the Arthritis Foundation. Hailey continues to remain positive that a cure will be found so everyone can come off their medications and live pain free.
Thank you for participating in the 2013 Arthritis Walk®, the signature fundraising event for the Arthritis Foundation. Every year, people across the country move together to celebrate those who are making a positive impact on the lives of people living with arthritis.
More than just an event, Arthritis Walk® is a celebration of year-round movement. It is building awareness for this debilitating disease and raising necessary funds to drive arthritis research, education and life improvement programs; it also continues the Arthritis Foundation’s search to find a cure to the nation’s leading cause of disability.
Our mission is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. When you join us at the Arthritis Walk®, you're not moving alone -- you are becoming part of a community looking to achieve better health and change lives at the same time. We look forward to seeing you at the Arthritis Walk!
